The
10th Dot
Can you think outside the box?
We invented
the 10th Dot to help people
think, plan
and act wisely together.
These three steps are like
ready-aim-fire or dream-design-do. When
people think outside the box, they can become
more effective, efficient
and ethical in their relationships.
Can you connect
all 9 dots with 4 straight lines, without lifting your
pencil?
Rollover the dots to find the 10th dot...

People display two
basic thinking styles.
With business
and marriage
partners, these styles
attract and repel
each
other. If we disrespect
each other, relationships
seem impossible. If
we
respect each other, better relationships
are
possible.
In England, divergent
thinkers are “Groupers.”
Groupers
are horizontal or synchronous
thinkers.
If a
grouper were a bug landing
on a pond, not
knowing
the big picture
or all its options would
drive its anxiety.
Until
it knew the size of the
pond and sensed the total
environment, it would
scan the horizon. Groupers
have
quick responses. Groupers
are easy to watch. They
scan externally. Like
popcorn machines, they
create options
to
a fault. They scan
their thoughts and feelings
live,
aloud
and without editing.
Groupers find more than
one right option or
solution
to a problem. The down
side is no one knows
which option to pick. This
includes
the grouper.
In England, convergent
thinkers are “Stringers.”
Stringers
are vertical or sequential
thinkers.
If a
stringer were a bug landing
on the
pond,
not
knowing enough details
would drive its anxiety.
Until they know the
exact temperature of the
water
at various depths,
they scan the pond vertically.
They study the mud
and
bedrock. Stringers
have patience. Stringers
are
hard to watch. Until
they reach a logical
conclusion,
they scan internally.
Like submarines, stringers
scan
their thoughts and
feelings beneath the surface.
Stringers prefer to
work
on problems
or feelings alone.
The down side is they share
decisions with a few,
carefully chosen words.
Stringers
say what they mean.
They
mean what they say.
Groupers
and stringers are playful
terms. They
describe different ways
to scan. We all use a blend
of these skills. People
in our private briefings
find they often married
their opposite. Like courtship,
now is the time to respect
these style gifts again.
If stringers and groupers
understand these basic
thinking styles, relationships
and results improve.
By now,
most groupers are bored
and stringers are
asking for more information.
To strike a balance,
we encourage you to explore
our site or visit our ABLE Store. Workflow
made visible begins when
groupers and stringers think, plan and
act wisely
on a platform together.
